We’re nearly three weeks in, and Brighton Digital Festival has seen a whole host of exciting digital culture events pop up around Brighton and Hove.
But with just over one-and-a-half weeks to go, there’s still time to get involved in the UK’s fastest-growing digital culture festival.
We share our picks for the upcoming week.
Event of the week
Addictive TV’s Orchestra of Samples
September 19, 8pm – 11pm
Venue: The Old Market
Addictive TV performs a one-off special of its incredible new project Orchestra of Samples. Filming more than 200 musicians around the world and sampling them all to create an audio-visual spectacle of artists who have never met but play together on screen, the electronic duo will collaborate with the kings of street percussion, Stomp, to bring a real live exclusive to the Brighton Digital Festival.
Five must-see events
September 22-23, 10am: Free
Venue: Lighthouse
Enter the “Rejuvenation Tent” for an assessment, and experience a bespoke treatment courtesy of M.O.R.T.Y Life Extension Technologies. Visitors can interact with devices, experience regeneration, and learn about life preserving techniques, brain uploading, and more. They can come face-to-face with the future and hear testimonials from those who’ve been there. The M.O.R.T.Y tent contains the secrets of eternal life in a darkly honest and unsettling multimedia confrontation.
September 23, 9.30am: £99, £55 Students
Venue: Lighthouse
This year’s Let’s Get Real conference asks “What’s the story?” and brings together experts, artists and thinkers to help make more out of our digital cultural heritage. Content strategies, practically focussed solutions, innovation with what we already have, organisational shift – all packaged in a mix of keynotes, conversations, critique, and provocations.
September 23-29, 11am: Free
Venue: 16 Brighton Square
A Victorian style interactive robot that will ask the public questions about their wellbeing and will then store data on the patient and dispense “treatment” with an information card. The art installation will encourage reflection on individualism, the voluntary transfer of personal responsibility to organisations, police states, and the individual’s perception of the value of personal fulfilment.
September 24, All day: Free
Venue: Patterns
Fugu PR and totallyradio present a day of inspiring conversation at radio’s cutting edge with special guests, radio creators and technologists as well as sound art and live music – all broadcast live from Patterns on Brighton beach. Acclaimed musician, broadcaster, and activist Chris T-T will host the event and more than 30 industry guests will contribute.
September 18-19, 7pm: Free
Venue: Phoenix Brighton
Digital artists Alex May and community arts group Exploring Senses will work with young people to design and construct a stunning cardboard cityscape bringing it to life with video mapped projections using May’s accessible software Painting with Light, and populating it with “toy hack citizens”.
